The weekend begins with a ritual opening ceremony. Gathering in a circle, we create a sacred space for all that occurs over the weekend. In the circle no one is higher or lower than any other: we are together as a temporary community, and can feel safe to open our hearts and minds to new experiences and growth.
The opening ritual is different each year, but usually involves purification with smoke (smudging with sage) before entering the circle, followed by calling in the elements (earth, water, air, fire), the powers of the above (heavens), below (earth) and centre; inviting the goddess or divine feminine by her many names to join us and work with us. There might also be drumming, chanting, movement, circle dance.
The opening ceremony may take place outdoors or inside. Please be prepared for weather, midges, movement. You might want to bring a drum, rattle, small percussion, musical instrument or a colourful scarf.
There will be a closing ritual at the end of the weekend to thank and release the elements, goddesses, etc, and to ensure we are all grounded and safe to travel home.
